In an area renowned for the beauty of its beaches, these two cousins stand out. In addition to the rich, cobalt waters of the Caribbean laced by long white ribbons of soft powder sand, you’ll find over 400 km of healthy coral reef, large lagoons, thick marshes and a population of bird wildlife numbering over 150 species. The star of the bird show would have to be its large colony of pink flamingos which, numbering over 10,000 birds, would trump even the most ambitious front lawn in Fort Lauderdale. Bird enthusiasts will also find herons, pelicans, egrets, the white ibis, and other tropical species. The waters off the cays are flush with grouper, snapper, and mackerel, while deeper off the coast fishermen find marlin and swordfish.
