Roatan, at 64 kilometers long and just over 3 kilometers wide, is the largest of these islands and boasts the most developed infrastructure with a variety of hotels and resorts to suit almost any budget, a variety of dining options, several bars and clubs and some local shops. Tourists to Roatan will be pleased to discover that English is so widely spoken that many of the local inhabitants do not even speak Spanish. The island is surrounded by lovely beaches and the world's second largest coral reef, which actually hugs much of the shoreline.
Only 12 kilometers from Roatan, and 70 km from Honduras, you’ll find Guanaja. The water off its shores is warm and clear and an abundance of sea life, including shrimp so large that they’ve outgrown their name, calls this area home. The island itself is also adorned with waterways, earning it the nickname: the Venice of Honduras. The Venetians only wish they had it so good!
